Unique Tibetan jewelry comes from the mysterious and relatively little known culture and country of Tibet. Tibet is located on the main part of Qinghai-Tibet plateau, in the South-West part of China. In the South Tibet borders with India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Burma, and it's bounded by Kashmir in the West. The country stretches through the Tibetan and Himalayan mountain range. The capital city of Tibet is Lhasa (meaning "Holy-Land") it is the heart and soul of Tibet for more than 1,300 years. The city of Lhasa rose to prominence as an important center of administrative power in the 7th century AD. Tibet's ancient civilization and ecosystem - as well as the welfare of its people - are threatened by the on-going occupation of the People's Republic of China. (Just in case Tibet doesn't sound familiar to you: Tibet is the home of Dalai Lama, the Holy Man of Tibetan Buddhism. If the title Dalai Lama doesn't ring a bell either, among his many celebrity followers and supporters of independence for Tibet is .... Richard Gere.) A basic understanding of Buddhism is essential to understanding Tibet. Buddhism is one of the world's most tolerant and peaceful religions (actually, schools of thought would be a more appropriate definition) and it permeates most aspects of Tibetan culture.
We are presenting to you a collection of handmade ethnic, Tibetan Jewelry! ALL Gemstones featured are NATURAL and as described. Most often the stones used by the artists of Tibet are Coral and Turquoise. In some cases the metal is Sterling Silver, in most cases it is Tibetan Silver. (a white metal alloy)
Among the items you'll find here are Tibetan necklaces and Tibetan prayer boxes. BE ADVISED: the items from this collection are "one of a kind" and will be sold on a "first come, first served" basis.

The Tibetan GHAU is a portable shrine or a prayer box. Tibetan people put scriptures inside and wear a Ghau everyday as a form of an active prayer. Today, many people wearing Ghau carry in it a WISH written on a small strip of paper in the belief that the act of carrying it will speed up its fulfillment....)
