The Right Blouse For Your Body Type |
EVERY woman is beautiful, but the women who are recognized as beautiful by everyone are those who know how to emphasize their assets and camouflage their flows. (For the sake of a quick start, I’m assuming that every female has discovered Spanx and Shapewear already and that we’re on the same page when it comes to brass. The breasts are not supposed to rest on the top of a stomach; they belong up and even though it may not be anatomically correct, breasts are expected to be somewhat close to one another, not “looking” in two opposite directions.) This article is dedicated to the subject of blouses, tank tops, shirts, vest, what have you. There is a blouse for every body type; a specific style that is particularly flattering for YOU. The pictures feature pre-owned tops available on our Website because I believe that whether you’re experimenting with a new look or having trouble deciding between item A and item B, money (or lack thereof) shouldn’t prevent a female from expressing herself through fashion. Moving on, what blouses are recommended for emphasizing your beautiful features? (Remember that the best policy is to emphasize ONE asset in an outfit.) |
What top will accentuate your assets best? Long, slim neck: show it off in any blouse; avoid tops that shorten neck such as mock turtlenecks. |
Attractive bust: accentuate it with tops that draw attention to the bust line; the best bet: peasant-style blouses (Like this cute pre-owned one by GAP; if you have long legs, wear it as shown; if you don't, tuck it in a skirt or jeans for high impact. Can be worn as shown or off-the-shoulders. Click on the pic for more info.) Avoid too small or too tight tops that squeeze or flatten breasts |
Beautiful arms: show them off in halter, tank tops and sleeveless tops. (The super-sexy halter is by French Kiss; the sleeveless top is pre-owned 100% Silk by Banana Republic. Click on a pic for more info.) Avoid huge sleeves. |
Nice waist don’t shy away from tops that fit like a glove. (This blouse is by Sans Souci and the actual colors are gold and black. (Click on the pic for more info.) Avoid Empire-waist styles.
Flat belly unless you’re over 45, cropped (or otherwise short) tops are perfect. (The cropped blue one is by Boe; the white one is by Kookla. Click on a pic for more info.) Avoid pregnancy-style blouses
Small butt will look great with short shirts and tops that end half-butt. (This gorgeous pre-owned shirt is by Guess. Click on the pic for more info.) Avoid too long shirts |
Now comes the art of style: what tops are best at concealing your body flows? |
Short or stocky neck: V-necks, low-cut
tops, any button-up shirt that you don't button-up high. (The off-white
one is by Miss Me; the pre-owned mint green has a lot of hardware....
Click on a pic for more info.) Avoid high collars and turtlenecks. |
Small bust: best idea is a well-padded bra; second-best: ruffles, thick shirring on the chest, or chest pockets. (The magenta top by Wrapper has a number of unique features, it can also be worn of the shoulder; the pre-owned white stretch blouse by Rubber Ducky Productions, Inc will enhance your chest, too...) Avoid too-fitted tops. |
Lack of waist: whatever you do, don’t cover up the area: create a waist by wearing a short, well shaped shirt, the kind with uplifted shirt tails. (The pre-owned denim shirt is by AE Outfitters and the mint green one by Express.) Avoid shapeless tunics, unless they’re full-bodied and worn with a belt. |
Protruding belly: God created fashion
for a reason: there are several ways for dealing with this issue. Longer
Empire waist tunics; well-fitted shirts that cover the upper half of the
tummy are GREAT; longer shirts and tunics. There is one more way: wear a
loose fitting shirt with tails and top it off with a tight-fitting but
SHORT vest. Your bust line and waist will show lovely, your belly won’t.
No matter what you do, avoid too fitted, jersey tops and too short
blouses. (The pre-owned, funky top below is by Energie; the gently worn
tweed vest is by Clothes Circuit; this dreamy, never worn turquoise, linen
shirt is by Sarah Spencer Woman and finally, the sweet cantaloupe tunic
shimmers with self- and silver -colored sequins.)

On a final note, the length of blouses has to stand in proportion to your height and weight. If you're tall (or medium height) and slender, tops of any length will flatter you. If you're tall (or medium height) and not too skinny, steer clear of wide / boxy shirts. If you're short and slender, avoid boxy and long blouses. If you're short and not quite slender, keep your tops short or medium length and whatever you do, WEAR HEELS!
